How Do I Fix My EBike Battery Not Charging? (Solved)

How Do I Fix My EBike Battery Not Charging

One of the things that can disturb all electric bike riders is a problem with the battery because the battery is the most important and most expensive part of the bike.

Although the battery can be repaired, defining the problem can be a bit confusing.

One of the most confusing problems for all electric bike riders, especially if they are not familiar with maintenance basics, is the inability to charge the battery.

That is why in this post we will explain the most important reasons that can cause the inability to charge the battery in the correct way.

How Do I Fix My EBike Battery Not Charging?

In order to determine the technical reason for the inability of the battery to charge, we will start with gradual steps so that you can determine the defect

1- Electricity  Outlet issue.

When you find that the battery is not charging, the first step for you is to make sure that the outlet in the wall is working and that an electric current goes out, by connecting any other electrical device to this outlet.

You can also make sure that the charger plug is placed correctly.

Finally, use another outlet to make sure that the problem is in the battery or the charger already.

2-Charger problem.

Charger problems are one of the most common reasons that cause the battery to not be able to charge, and in order to determine whether the problem is in the charger or not, you can do these steps.

First, make sure that when you plug the charger plug into the wall, it gives a green color because this is an indication of the electrical current that reaches correctly from the outlet in the wall to the charger.

Second: Use another charger to charge the battery that has a problem.

Third: Check the charger voltage to make sure it is working properly.

You can see this post in which we explained in detail how to do a test for the charger

3-BMS damage.

Inside each battery, there is a chip called BMS or battery management system, and the function of this chip is to protect the internal cells of the battery by closing the battery in case anything happens that may harm the battery, such as: that the charge percentage reaches its lowest level or the presence of a damaged cell inside the battery.

Based on this, if there is a problem with this chip, you will not be able to charge the battery properly.

The solution to this problem is to change the BMS, but before changing it, you should make sure that the problem is in the BMS by doing the following steps:

1- Measure the voltage of all the internal cells of the battery and make sure that it gives the correct voltage (4.2 in the case of full charge up to 3 in the case of little charge). If you find that the readings of the cells are within normal limits, this indicates a problem in the BMS.

2- Make sure that the BMS does not have any traces of burns or damage.

Note: When changing the BMS, it must be of the same capacity as the damaged BMS or higher so as not to cause damage to the battery.

In some cases, it may need to do the rest of the BMS and the battery will return to work Look at these posts to know more about the correct way to do a BMS REST.

4-Battery Fuse issue.

One of the reasons that can cause the battery to not be able to charge is that the charging fuse or discharging fuse has a problem and does not work

The function of the fuse in the battery is to ensure that the electric current entering the battery does not exceed the permissible limit, by sensing the number of amps entering the battery.

In order to confirm the problem with the fuse, you should measure the battery voltage from the discharging port, and if you do not find any reading of the voltage, this indicates that the fuse is damaged and does not pass the electric current.

You should replace the fuse with the same capacity as the current fuse, and you will find a number on the fuse that shows the capacity of the amp that supports it.

For more details about changing the fuse, you can see this post

Conclusion.

As a general rule, you can fix the problem of a battery that does not charge by replacing the charger, BMS, or fuse.

On the other hand, you should make sure that you put the plug in the wall correctly and that you do the rest of the BMS before replacing it.
