How Much Does Electric Bike Weigh?(Explained with full details)

Welcome To Electric Bike Tricks

Since 2017, I’ve been riding electric bikes, and let me be honest with you, one of the first questions that came to my mind when I thought about buying an electric bike was how much does an electric bike weigh? perhaps because I didn’t have enough experience with electric bikes.

But now, after buying more than four electric bikes,

Let me tell you that the weight of an electric bike is not one of the factors that might prevent you from owning it, but it is a factor that you should definitely take into account.

Therefore, in this post, we will break down each part of the electric bike in terms of weight and put an average to it.

I will also share with you the most famous types that are out there in the market now in terms of weight.

But before we start, we should set a general rule when buying an electric bike, which is that the greater the weight, the greater the comfort while riding the ebike.

An electric bike differs from a regular bike in terms of weight.

The weight of an electric bike is 50 to 60 percent more than a regular bike, as a regular bike weighs 20lbs to 25lbs on average, but an electric bike weighs from 40lbs to 70 lbs on average. the reason why an ebike is heavier than a normal bike is that the ebike has a battery, motor, controller, and more parts that a normal bike doesn’t have.

How Much Does Ebike Motor Weigh?

The motor is one of the parts that distinguish an electric bike from a regular bike and also increases the weight,

but what is the approximate weight of the motor?

250-watt motor weighing an average of 2.9kg up to 3.12kg

5oo-Watt Motor weighing an average of 3kg up to 3.356kg

750-Watt Motor weighing an average of 3.5kg up to 4.3kg

1000-Watt Motor weighing an average of 4.5kg up to 5.8513kg

As a general rule, the weight of the ebike motor can be between 3 to 6 KG however this depends on the manufacture, watts, and the design of the ebike whether it mid-drive motor or hub motor as in most cases hub motor is weighted with the wheel which adds extra weight.

How Much does Ebike Battery weigh?

The battery is the most famous part of the electric bike, which everyone thinks is the reason for the increase in the weight of the electric bike, although it weighs less than the weight of the motor.

however as it can be carried and taken out, most electric cyclists think that it is the first reason for the increase in the weight of the electric bike simply because they can carry it and feel its weight.

Now let’s show the weight of the battery according to its voltage.

36 Voltage battery

The weight for the 36V – 8AH is between 2kg up to 2.3KG

The Weight for the 36V-10 AH is between 2kg up to 2.5KG

The Weight for the 36V-12 AH is between 2kg up to 2.5KG

Note the weight of the battery depends on the design of the battery & material as well.

for example, during my search, I found on Amazon 36V battery that weights 3.7KG

48 Voltage battery

The weight for the 48V – 8AH is between 3kg up to 3.3KG

The weight for the 48V – 1012AH is between 3kg up to 3.3KG

52 Voltage battery

The weight for the 52V – 13AH is between 4.5kg up to 4.8KG

The weight for the 52V – 19-26AH is between 5.7kg up to 7KG

As a general rule, the average weight for the standard ebike battery will be between 2KG up to 5KG, however, there are kinds of batteries that are more weight than the standard. this depends on the design of the battery, capacity  & manufacture.
